Zika virus infection in Colombia was first notified in August 2015 and in October of that year the first cases of native transmission occurred1-3. The infection has been associated with several complications including some neurological disorders as increased incidence of Guillain-Barré syndrome (estimated odds 60 ratio greater than 34), microcephaly and polyneuropathy. Therefore health-care systems of the affected countries and the World Health Organization have increased the efforts in research, prevention and control because of the multiple negative implications related to the infection in the population4,5. Colombia has the second highest number of cases of Zika virus infection in South America2.
